OTDA is now in a position to let you know what we are doing for 2007 to follow the successful Fringe Events we ran in the week preceding The 2nd Orkney Dance Festival. We have secured Highland 2007 Funding to celebrate traditions past, present and future therefore our plans are to celebrate the dance heritage of Orkney with a fun packed “Ceilidh Weekend”. This will be done in the form of ceilidhs and workshops over the weekend beginning Friday 13th April 2007 with the first of the workshops in the afternoon followed by a ceilidh in the evening. There will be workshops in various forms of traditional dance (visiting tutors include Jessie Stuart, Maria Leask and Campbell Hunter) and also music for dance throughout the weekend with local musicians and Nicol McLaren, David Scott, Judith Linton and Stuart Anderson. Our island communities have offered to get in on the act again and host Fringe Events with Rousay and Hoy already offering and a third to be confirmed. These will happen in the run up to the “Ceilidh Weekend”.
We will keep you all up to date on our progress through the pages of “Dance On!”.
